Position Summary

The University of the Incarnate Word is seeking Part-time Bus Drivers to operate gas or diesel bus on routes for University. Must observe all state and city speed limits and safety regulations, as well as, safety policies of the University.

Description of Job Duties

Pre/Post Trip Inspections
Walk around bus to observe any visual defects and check operating systems-brakes, horn, windshield wipers, lights, first-aid kits, emergency flashers, door-opening devices, etc. At end of shift/route check for forgotten personal items and remove any large waste items.

Job Duty Name Driving
Description of Job Duties

At start of shift obtain route assignment.
Pick up and discharges student passengers following prescribed service routes and safety policy. Assists disabled individuals in entering and exiting the bus.
May be assigned to chartered bus trips and other duties as assigned.

Description of Job Duties

Immediately, report emergency or imminent safety conditions to supervisor. Report all accidents to supervisor, immediately, and request police or ambulance service as needed.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Must possess strong customer service skills. Knowledge of all state and local traffic laws. Knowledge of DOT regulations and UIW’s safety policies.
Must have the ability to drive for long periods of time.
Must be capable of maneuvering the bus safely and assist passengers.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education

High School diploma or its equivalent.

Required Work Experience

At least 1-2 years driving experience.
Must be at least 21 years of age with excellent driving record, as verified through state Motor Vehicle department.

Preferred Qualifications

Must be at least 21 years of age with excellent driving record, as verified through state Motor Vehicle department Friendly customer service orientated personality Must have physical strength adequate to maneuver the bus and assist passengers.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

Class A or B Commercial Drivers License with with P & S Endorsements. Must be insurable with UIW’s insurance carrier.
