Position Summary

Responsible for performing routine and non-routine building maintenance tasks in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning), and other minor general maintenance tasks as well as general groundskeeper work as assigned. Incumbent works under general supervision but may work independently and / or with coworkers to complete tasks.

Description of Job Duties

Perform general building maintenance and groundskeeper tasks to UIW facilities. Maintenance and repair may include minor carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, and electrical work. Additionally, grounds maintenance tasks include cutting grass, trimming sidewalks, hedges, and shrubs as well as daily removal of litter.

Must have good communication skills including orally and in writing and have strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Customer service orientated.
Excellent attendance and punctuality standards.
Have the skills to make independent decisions and exercise good judgment.
Will need to evaluate objectively, fairly, and consistently.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to work in outdoor and indoor environments.
Must have the skills to use common tools and equipment.
Knowledge of terminology used in building maintenance and repair.
Knowledge about materials, equipment and tools used in building maintenance and repair.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education

High School diploma or its equivalent.

Required Work Experience

1 to 3-years experience in general building maintenance and repair.

Preferred Qualifications

5 years or more experience in building maintenance and repair.
Experience in a university, college, or school setting.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

Valid Texas Driver’s License or obtain a valid Texas Driver’s License within 3 months of hire. Must be insurable under UIW’s insurance carrier.

Work Hours

Generally, Monday ~ Friday (40 hours).
May work flexible or rotating shift that includes evening, weekends and holidays.
May be included in “on call” after-hours rotation.

Physical Demands

Work in extreme heat or cold, in inclement weather.
Lifting or pushing up to 50 pounds.
Noise levels may, at times, require use of normal hearing protection (e.g., ear plugs).
Will be required to wear Personal Protective equipment (PPE) when appropriate (e.g., gloves, eye protection, ear plugs, etc.).
Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend and kneel for prolong periods.
