Position Title Accountant

Position Summary

This position is responsible for performing routine and complex accounting and analytical work requiring professional knowledge of the theory and practice of recording, classifying, examining, analyzing accounting records and financial transactions, and generating and monitoring financial reports.

Job Duty Name Restricted Funds
Description of Job Duties

• Monitor and analyze restricted fund accounts.
• Review and approve related transactions (revenue and expenditures).
• Perform restricted account administration by establishing fund records, policies and procedures and timetables.
• Work closely with budget managers to establish budgets and handle procedural matters.
• Maintain communication with budget managers to ensure account accuracy.
• Perform reconciliations of restricted accounts.
• Perform related duties as required.

Description of Job Duties

• Abide by University financial policies and procedures, donor requirements and agency regulations.
• Assist in the creation of new policies and procedures established by the University in accordance with regulations.
• Communicate and disseminate best practices to University personnel.
• Generate monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
• Perform cost analysis and create statistical reports and data.

Job Duty Name Endowments
Description of Job Duties

• Review Endowment agreements to initiate administration.
• Work closely with the Financial Aid Office and Advancement Office on funding distributions and to establish budgets based on endowment agreements.
• Maintain endowment files, reports and other supporting documentation as deemed necessary.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reconciliation and reports based on cash and investment activities.

• Assist in the preparation of the annual audit(s).
• Reconcile development records to the University financial statements.
• Respond to audit inquiries accurately and in a timely manner.
• Prepare investment audit work-papers and footnotes.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of accounting.
• Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
• Skill in operating a calculator and/or a ten key adding machine.
• Ability to analyze and evaluate accounting problems.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to apply accounting principles and practices to non-profit/governmental accounting.
• Ability to interpret and analyze financial documents and reports.
• Ability to prepare a variety of financial statements, reports, and analyses.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and use rational judgment in making work-related decisions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, community, and general public.
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications: databases, spreadsheets, and/or word processing.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Required Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university.

Required Work Experience

•Three to seven years of accounting experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior endowment experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of financial audit and reporting requirements.
• Knowledge of non-profit/governmental accounting and budgeting.
